July 2016 focused on sharing personal stories of couples and individuals who have worked very hard to get past the negative messaging we often hear about pornography viewing and masturbation within an LDS framework (evil, pernicious, perverse, addiction, in Satan's grasp, etc.).  Both couples interviewed state that their marriages were in danger of ending due largely to how they had been taught to think about these behaviors.  In my clinical work, I cannot emphasize enough how often I see parts of LDS sexual education play a significant role in creating havoc for individuals (self-worth, depression, anxiety, self-harm, spent finances and energy on inappropriate addiction treatment , etc.) and couples (distrust, betrayal, hampering of open communication, divorce, etc.).  I have a great passion to help both individuals and couples have accurate information that will fit within their value systems in ways that do not deter from spiritual edification and relational/individual health. I think it's vitally important to give voice to these stories.
